Carpinus Betulus Pyramidalis is commonly known as the Hornbeam tree. It is native to Britain and is quite similar to green Beech. Hornbeam can be used for hedging.
When used as hedging plants, Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus Pyramidalis) makes a dense hardy hedging which produces attractive catkins in the spring. Although Hornbeams are deciduous trees, the leaves will usually keep their form over the harshest winter months turning a lovely copper colour without necessarily dropping from the branches. Then producing dark/mid-green dense bushy foliage in the summer months. With a slow to medium growth rate, hornbeam trees are easy to maintain, requiring just an occasional trim to keep their shape. Hornbeams prefer full sun or partial shade and are hardy.
The Hornbeam trees (or Carpinus Betulus Pyramidalis) has received the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, a sure sign that it will perform well in most gardens.
These large, mature Hornbeam specimens have a lovely upright shape and are ideal for use as instant hedging trees affording instant privacy in the garden.
