Its year-round visual interest and adaptability make it an excellent semi-evergreen plant for UK gardens.
Bred in 1994, Buddleja Davidii Silver Anniversary is a perfect choice for small gardens or large! Some of its lance-shaped, woolly leaves will remain on the plant throughout the winter, while others fall off and are replaced by fresh growth in the spring. From July until hard frost, Buddleja Morning Mist blooms forth with small white flowers with mustard-coloured centres, grouped in short, dense panicles on arching branches. One of the advantages of Buddleja Silver Anniversary is that the flowers are sterile so there is no problem with self-seeding. Meanwhile, the lovely, honey-scented blooms will attract bees and butterflies to your garden! Remove dead flowers to encourage more to bloom.
Hardy in most places in the UK, Buddleja Silver Anniversary will grow to a mature height and spread of 1.5 to 2.5 metres in 2 to 5 years. It is strongly recommended to cut the plant back early in the spring to 3 or 4 buds on each branch. If planting in a group, space them 2 metres apart. Buddleja Davidii Silver Anniversary will do best in full sun, facing south or west in an exposed or sheltered position. It prefers a well-drained sand, loam or chalk soil, and does equally well in coastal and city gardens, as it tolerates both salt and pollution. Being both deer and rabbit resistant, Buddleja Morning Mist is also a great choice for country gardens.
There are many excellent landscape uses for Buddleja Silver Anniversary. Its small size and attractive foliage in winter, as well as the fragrant flowers of summer, make it appropriate for planting in a container on a rooftop terrace or patio or in a courtyard garden. It is excellent in a mixed border, where its silver foliage creates a strong contrast with the green-leaved plants around it. Planted in a wildlife or woodland garden, it will provide year-round interest as well as attracting butterflies and bees. Since it does best in well-drained soil, it is perfect for problem spots with very dry conditions.
Cold-hardy, drought-tolerant, and covered with fragrant blooms for months, Buddleja Davidii Silver Anniversary hardly needs more to recommend it - but the striking silver foliage does just that! Other white flwering Buddleia varieties include Buddleia White Profusion and Buddleia White Chip.
