Topiary comes in all shapes and sizes but one of the most elegant topiary shapes must surely be these dome or mushroom-shaped topiary hollies. These plants are garden showpieces. No wonder this mushroom-effect style is very much in vogue right now particularly among garden designers.
These topiary hollies (variegated variety Ilex Aquifolium Argentea Marginata) have been carefully shaped and moulded in a Niwaki fashion over a period of around 12 years to create these stunning dome or mushroom shaped topiary plants. These are impressively sized plants. While not overly tall at circa 1 metre excluding the pot, these plants measure circa 1.2 metres in diameter. They are surprisingly easy to maintain, requiring a clip once or twice per year.
To further add to its many merits, Ilex Aquifolium Argentea Marginata has beautiful variegated cream and green foliage all year round. It produces fragrant white flowers in summer and bright red berries in the autumn. It is also an extremely hardy plant.
