A relatively new variety of Skimmia which originated in Holland, Skimmia Japonica Pabella is a very attractive compact shrub with stunning clusters of dark red berries in autumn that last throughout the winter months. This variety of Skimmia has the added advantage of being shade tolerant.
Skimmia Japonica Pabella is a bushy evergreen shrub that produces small white fragrant flowers in spring / early summer. This is followed by deep red berries about now.
Skimmia does like to have a neutral to acidic soil. If your soil is more limey, you can regularly add an ericaceous plant food or grow your Skimmia in a pot in ericaceous compost.
Skimmia Japonica Pabella is a female plant. If do you need a male plant to provide pollen, try Skimmia Japonica ‘Rubella, recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
