Originating from China, Rhaphiolepis Indica Springtime may not be a household name among the evergreen shrubs more commonly gracing our UK gardens as topiary. However, if you are looking for a good-looking, evergreen shrub suitable for topiary with year-round interest, lots of versatility and the added attraction of being perhaps not so well known, Rhaphiolepis Indica Springtime (Pink Lady) is well worth considering. Particularly attractive are the topiary (lollipop) half standard shape which we now have in stock.
Rhaphiolepis Indica Springtime more commonly known as Indian hawthorn ‘Pink Lady’ is a very attractive evergreen shrub with a beautiful cinnamon coloured bark, lovely lush deep green foliage and in springtime, an abundance of attractive pink flowers, which are then followed by small, neat black berries. As an added bonus, Rhaphiolepis Indica Springtime is very attractive to birds and butterflies. Rhaphiolepis is happiest is a sunny position.
In terms of versatility, Rhaphiolepis Indica Springtime makes an excellent ornamental shrub or tree, lending themselves particularly well to topiary (see in particular our half-standard lollipop Rhaphiolepis specimens).
Lollipop-shaped topiary Rhaphiolepis fits in very well with Mediterranean themed gardens and in fact is an ideal substitute for the olive tree. It also works well in pots for terraces and patios (provided it is in a sunny position).
Right now at Paramount, we have Rhaphiolepis half standard topiary trees in size circa 1.3 Metres. These are available to buy online as well as are our more mature half standard topiary specimens at circa 1.4 metres high.
