As the leaves fall, the bark is revealed and here, in our humble opinion, are some of the most beautiful trees with ornamental bark.
The Silver Birch – in this case, Betula Utilis Pendula or weeping Silver Birch tree – has a lovely white bark, pictured here in all its glory, beautifully offset by the deep blue backdrop of a sunny autumn day. This weeping Silver Birch tree is a slow growing and relatively small tree so it’s ideal for introducing a dramatic touch to the smaller garden.
A larger tree than Betula Utilis Pendula is Betula Jacquemontii (the Himalayan Birch or White Stem Birch); again with a striking white trunk that looks attractive all year round. Our Betula Jacquemontii is also available as single stem trees.
Prunus Kiku Shidare Zakura is a small weeping cherry tree with a refreshingly attractive creamy coloured bark. This tree is the perfect addition to any Japanese themed garden.
Acer Griseum (or Paper Bark Maple) has an eye-catching copper coloured bark with reddish overtones that theatrically peels like paper parchment.
Not deciduous, but when talking about Beautiful Barks we simply have to mention the Cork Oak (or Quercus Suber) – definitely a tree with Ornamental Bark. It’s corky, crackly, thick & gnarly, bursting with character & distinction.
