Rodgersia Bronze Peacock is a stunning new variety of the popular perennial plant Rodgersia which will be a great addition to your garden for its unusual leaves, brilliant flowers, and attractive seedheads, giving 3 seasons of interest to your landscape.
Introduced from the United States, Rodgersia Bronze Peacock is well worth adding to your garden in the UK. When its thick, leathery leaves emerge in early spring, they are a beautiful deep brown-bronze with metallic highlights, arranged in large fans like a peacock’s tail. As summer advances they will turn green and the pink flowers appear, held high on red stems, through July and August. The flowers are followed by dark seeds in the autumn.
Fully hardy in the UK, Rodgersia Bronze Peacock will grow into a clump with a height and spread of 60-90 cm. The flower stalks rise to 1.2 metres. If you are planting more than one, space the plants 30- 45 cm apart.
Rodgersia Bronze Peacock will thrive in damp soil, including a poorly drained location, making it a good choice for a wet spot in your yard where other plants will not grow. It grows best in a clay or loam soil with a neutral to acid ph. It prefers partial shade, although it will tolerate full sun. Apply a layer of leaf mulch around the plant in spring.
This lovely foliage plant, with its preference for partial shade and moist soil, is a natural choice for a woodland garden, where the large clump will provide ground cover in spring, summer and autumn. Rodgersia Bronze Peacock also makes a good plant for the middle of a mixed border, where its dark spring leaves will make an effective contrast to the greens of spring. The summer flowers will fill the gap when spring-blooming plants have finished and the reliable, attractive foliage will fill in the spot all through the growing season.
Because of its love for moist soil, Rodgersia Bronze Peacock also works well next to a garden water feature such as a pond or waterfall, or in a massed planting along a stream. It would look great in a container as well, with the long-lasting appeal of its foliage, as well as the summer flowers, making it an excellent specimen plant.
Rodgersia Bronze Peacock will bring new shades of beauty to your garden with its dramatically coloured leaves and summer flowers!
